Initial Situation
The company is a well-established logistics service provider in the European market. Previous critical success factors such as quality of the vehicle fleet, skills of drivers and dispatchers, scale, and financial strength have to be extended. Business process optimization at scale, IoT and vehicle IT, an integrated application landscape, and new ways of communicating with the clients have become important.
For IT, this represents a transformational change. Having been optimized towards overall IT costs, it now has to build capabilities and skills to support the updated business strategy while reducing technical debt and maintaining cost-effectiveness.
Challenges and opportunities in integrating European subsidiaries, establishing a strong IT governance, strengthening IT staff and leadership, building up new pillars in the application landscape, making decisions on the remaining lifespan of their ERP system, IT security, and the broadening of IoT / vehicle IT initiatives are ahead.
Overall Goal
The goal of the project was to coach the CFO on topics and initiatives they are driving in the area of IT strategy, digital / IT operating model, and organizational development.
Project Concept
The following approach has been taken to coach the CFO on topics and initiatives they are driving in the area of IT strategy and digital / IT operating model:
- Understand and discuss the overall corporate development and the corporate strategy and implications on their IT strategy and digital / IT operating model regularly
- Educate on industry trends, typical pitfalls, and lessons learned
- Brainstorming and co-creation sessions on particular strategic and tactical matters
- Provide coaching on typical challenges occurring in their organizational setup, such as: integrating European subsidiaries, establishing a strong IT governance, strengthening IT staff and leadership, building up new pillars in the application landscape, making decisions on the remaining lifespan of their ERP system, IT security, and the broadening of IoT / vehicle IT initiatives
Project Duration
The engagement length for coaching the CFO on his particular matters was a set of years. During this time, the coaching intensity was aligned to the client's needs and occurring topics.
